BBQ Blues
I bought new garden furniture
going cheap, local shop
Complete with basic BBQ
bag of charcoal, thrown in
Looks good, in the corner
time to fire it up, make
some hay while the sun
almost shines, barely rains
Light the fire. Sounds simple.
Doesn't work, hours of trying
fanning a flame that will not
catch, frustration rises
Shelter it, nurse it,
blow on it, curse it
Finally find the key, inside
in a drawer. A long forgotten
can of lighter fluid. Petrol,
more or less
BBQ lights, oh happy day
Throw on steaks, kebabs
stand back to admire.
It begins to rain.
